Altoona-based McCarl's Preferred Services is a mechanical service company offering plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and automatic temperature controls, in addition to design-build and performance contracting for residential, commercial and industrial applications.   Supporting local business and economy have been driving catalysts for many of the acquisitions and mergers that have come to form McCarl's Preferred Services out of Preferred by McCarl's and McCarl Services, LLC.  

For all these services in varying sectors to be operated under one roof is an especially remarkable feat.   Here's how we got to where we are today:

It began in 1998 with two companies - McCarl Services, Inc. in Cranberry, PA and S.P. McCarl and Company, Inc. in Altoona, PA.   The latter company is the same S.P. McCarl & Co., which exists today.

In that year, Shawn P. McCarl and McCarl Services, in Cranberry, acquired Decker Plumbing and Heating, located in Altoona.   McCarl Services, Inc., and Decker Plumbing and Heating became known as McCarl's Services, LLC, owned and operated in both Cranberry and Altoona.

In 2000, S.P. McCarl & Company, Inc. bought the Altoona portion of the business from McCarl Services, LLC.   From this, S.P. McCarl & Company, Inc., created S.P. McCarl, LP.

S.P. McCarl, LP, was a limited partnership that focused on residential and small commercial mechanical service and replacement work in addition to plumbing and HVAC commercial construction to private industry.

2001 was marked by the acquisition of Hess Plumbing and Heating by S.P. McCarl, LP.   The goal of this acquisition was to gain additional market share, increase work force, implement Hess' operating processes and add leadership.   After this acquisition, S.P. McCarl, LP, changed its identity to Preferred Plumbing, Heating and Cooling by McCarl's.

In 2004, Shawn McCarl bought the Cranberry portion of McCarl's Services, LLC, in an effort to make the ownership 100% locally owned and operated.   Additionally, this combined resources of the two similarly run business units.

On January 1, 2005, McCarl's Preferred Services was born, resulting from the merger of McCarl's Services, LLC and Preferred Plumbing, Heating and Cooling by McCarl's.  

This merger has created one of Central Pennsylvania's largest mechanical service companies.   McCarl's Preferred Services is the only Central PA company that offers diversification of services under the same roof that includes small residential plumbing service all the way to large boiler service in industrial applications.
